Bolivia reports influenza B and herpangina cases
Health authorities in Bolivia are monitoring outbreaks of different viral infections in the departments of Sucre and Potosí.
In Sucre, epidemiology chief Julio César Siñani reported 20 cases of influenza B this year. Notably, all 20 patients were vaccinated and none required hospitalization. While there has been a slight increase in total influenza cases, Siñani described the overall numbers as minimal and advised the public to maintain hygiene practices and seek medical attention if symptoms appear.
In Potosí, the Departmental Health Service (Sedes) confirmed 27 cases of herpangina, a viral infection caused by the Coxsackie type A virus. The cases have been detected among students in both public and private schools, as well as in the municipalities of Porco and Uyuni. The disease primarily affects preschool-aged children but has also been identified in adults, characterized by lesions in the mouth and throat. Educational and health authorities are coordinating containment measures and advising parents to keep symptomatic children at home.
