Bolivia reports trade surplus and rising tourism numbers
Bolivia reported a trade surplus of $1.377 billion as of May 2026, reversing a negative balance of $401 million recorded in 2025. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the country's economic performance is driven largely by the mining and hydrocarbon sectors.
Key export earners include silver and concentrates ($1.731 billion), zinc ($1.420 billion), raw gold ($1.186 billion), and natural gas ($1.082 billion). The agro-industrial sector also contributed significantly, with soy derivatives generating $814 million. Major trading partners include Brazil, India, and China.
In the tourism sector, data from 2025 shows that over 1.1 million foreign tourists visited Bolivia. According to the INE, 1,145,165 international visitors entered via land borders and international airports. Of these tourists, 51.2% stayed in hotels, while 18.5% used hostels and 16.6% stayed in residential accommodations.
