Bolivia road blockades halt transport, spur protests and government crackdown

The Bolivian Roads Administration (ABC) reported 91 non‑traversable points in six departments, with the highest concentrations in Cochabamba (24 points), La Paz (21) and Oruro (18). The Federation of Departmental Workers "Túpac Katari" ordered that all blockades in the 20 provinces of La Paz remain in place around the clock, mandating continuous watch‑towers and reporting.

Gremial organizations announced a multi‑sector peaceful march for Monday, demanding an end to the blockades and a return to normal economic activity. They cite losses of over US$1.2 billion since the blockade began 36 days ago, with daily losses estimated at US$35 million.

The government, led by President Rodrigo Paz, warned that “everything has a limit” and signaled the possible use of constitutional measures, including a state of exception. A police‑military operation opened a humanitarian food corridor between La Paz and Río Abajo. The administration also thanked the regional “Escudo de las Américas” initiative for its expressed support.
