Bolivia road blockades eased in El Alto and Potosí

In the city of El Alto, most critical road‑block points that had been set up by protestors were cleared on Sunday. Residents removed debris themselves, allowing public‑transport traffic to resume and the large 16 de Julio market to operate normally. Senator Nilton Condori visited the Río Seco area, which had been unblocked since the previous Thursday. The toll plaza on the La Paz‑El Alto highway was also cleared after cocaleros withdrew.

In the Potosí department, the majority of highways linking the city with the rest of Bolivia are now open to traffic. The only fully closed route remains the Potosí‑Oruro road, still blocked at Tarapaya, Challamayu and Cruce Ventilla. Other blockades on the Potosí‑Tarija, Potosí‑Sucre and surrounding roads have been lifted after protestors grew weary, following agreements brokered by Governor René Joaquino and Assembly President Eva Revollo. Authorities advise caution on some routes due to scattered stones and logs, and note a temporary shortage of fuel affecting public‑transport vehicles.
