Bolivia seeks foreign investment in mining and energy sectors
Bolivia is pursuing economic reforms and new investment frameworks to attract foreign capital and stimulate growth. During a meeting in New York, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Rodrigo Paz discussed how a new Investment Law could facilitate American entry into strategic sectors, including mining, hydrocarbons, green energy, and artificial intelligence.
Domestically, Senator Cynthia Gutiérrez has advocated for incentivizing private investment and promoting exports to mitigate the economic impact of removing diesel subsidies. She emphasized the need for legal certainty and the gradual removal of foreign trade restrictions to generate foreign currency and jobs.
In the Beni department, the Economic Development Council has proposed a four-pillar agenda to accelerate regional growth. Key proposals include a 15-year tax exemption for grain exports, strengthening trade integration with Brazil via the Costa Marques border crossing, ensuring legal security for the agricultural sector, and reviewing environmental regulations that producers claim limit economic potential.
