Bolivia seeks investment stability amid mining project demands
Bolivia is facing pressure to improve its investment climate to secure necessary foreign direct investment (FDI) for economic development. Beyond simply passing favorable laws, experts suggest the country must establish ecosystems of trust, including legal certainty, macroeconomic stability, access to foreign currency, and reliable energy supplies.
In the Oruro region, the Oruro Civic Committee is demanding the approval of Bill No. 081 to facilitate the Carangas Mining Project. The project aims to attract $324 million in private investment, allowing companies such as NPM Minerales S.A. and Granville to operate within 50 kilometers of the border in Mejillones province. If approved, the project is expected to generate approximately 300 million bolivianos in annual royalties starting in 2029. Local leaders have warned that stalling the bill could negatively impact the regional and national economy.
