Bolivia sees nationwide road blockades as protests demand President Rodrigo Paz's resignation

Widespread unrest has gripped Bolivia as workers, teachers, farmers, indigenous groups and transport employees have staged road blockades across the country. Over the past two weeks, 67 blockades were reported on the national highway network, disrupting fuel deliveries and causing shortages of basic goods. Prices of chicken and vegetables have surged amid the supply disruptions.

Protesters attribute the crisis to soaring inflation, which reached 14% year‑on‑year in April, and to proposed privatizations of state assets. They are calling for higher wages, economic stabilization and the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz. The president has defended his policies in a video message, blaming the blockades for the price hikes and unemployment. Supporters of former president Evo Morales also joined the protests, marching roughly 180 kilometres from Oruro toward La Paz to demand Paz's ouster.
