Bolivia sees surge in digital dollar and stablecoin adoption

Bolivia is seeing a rapid expansion in the use of digital dollars and stablecoins, driven by new regulatory frameworks and the entry of new financial service providers. The Central Bank of Bolivia enabled electronic payment instruments for virtual assets in June 2024, leading to a significant surge in transaction volumes. According to the central bank, operations grew from USD 46.5 million in the first half of 2024 to USD 294 million in the same period of 2025.

Vesseo has launched its self-custody digital wallet in Bolivia, allowing users to buy, sell, store, and transfer USDC via the Stellar, Polygon, and Solana networks. The platform enables the conversion of Bolivianos to digital dollars, providing users with direct control over their private keys.

In the consumer sector, Yango Comida has partnered with Peso to become the first food delivery platform in the country to accept USDT payments. This integration aims to reduce cash dependency and cater to the growing number of international visitors, as the country saw over 750,000 international tourists between January and August 2025.
