Bolivia police resume rural patrols after 53‑day blockades

After more than 50 days of widespread blockades, Bolivian police are returning to rural communities to restore law‑enforcement services. Officials said officers will first assess the condition of municipal facilities before fully reactivating patrols, with each province receiving four to five officers working in two shifts.

The Senate has approved the creation of a special commission to investigate the 53‑day blockades, aiming to determine responsibility for the deaths, financial losses and disruption to national production. The commission will be composed of senators appointed by party caucuses.

Amid the unrest, the Confederation of Private Entrepreneurs of Bolivia (CEPB) warned of a looming stagflation risk and urged urgent reforms of key legislation, including the investment, public‑private partnership, mining, and commerce laws, to revitalize private sector activity and restore economic confidence.
