Bolivia to compensate YPFB to maintain LPG cylinder prices
The Bolivian government has implemented measures to maintain the current price of 10-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders through the end of 2026. Under Supreme Decree 5667, the state will compensate Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) to offset the costs of the subsidy.
For LPG produced in plants, the compensation is set at Bs 0.84 per kilogram, equivalent to Bs 8.40 per cylinder. For gas produced in refineries, the state will recognize Bs 0.70 per kilogram, or Bs 7 per cylinder. These payments will be issued via endorsable Fiscal Credit Notes (Nocres) by the Ministry of Economy and Public Finance.
Despite social media reports claiming the subsidy was eliminated and that prices would rise to between Bs 130 and Bs 200, the retail price for a gas cylinder remains at Bs 22.50. The new decree is intended to stabilize consumer costs rather than remove financial support.
