Bolivia transport drivers plan protests after diesel shortage, pending end of state of emergency

The Confederación de Choferes de Bolivia announced it will wait for the lifting of the state of emergency—declared on 20 June for 90 days following nationwide blockades—before convening a national meeting to decide on protest actions. Executive Lucio Gómez said the sector will use the gathering to press demands such as a regular diesel supply, implementation of road projects, and proper use of funds collected by Vías Bolivia.

The drivers also called for an investigation and sanctions in the so‑called “gasolina basura” case, which they say has damaged thousands of vehicles. They warned that while the emergency remains in force, heavy and international transport will continue to press the government for solutions to the diesel shortage and related infrastructure issues.
