Bolivia transport head blames fuel shortages on import debt

Pedro Quispe, leader of Bolivia’s National and International Heavy Transport sector, said the country’s fuel shortage persists because the government is importing only about 30% of the required diesel and gasoline and is carrying debts linked to fuel purchases. He argued that the official explanation of delays due to quality controls does not address the core problem, which he sees as outstanding import obligations. Quispe warned that the shortage continues to disrupt heavy‑transport operations and called for a structural solution to guarantee regular fuel supply.

Government officials responded that funds for fuel imports are secured and that supply will gradually normalise as logistics, quality checks and distribution improve across the country.
