Bolivia weather alert: Cold front and river flood risks

A cold front has entered Bolivia, causing a sharp drop in temperatures across six departments: Tarija, Chuquisaca, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, Beni, and La Paz. The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) reported that temperatures could fall between 6°C and 12°C below normal values between September 21 and September 23.

In addition to the cold, Senamhi issued an orange hydrological alert due to the risk of sudden rises in river levels. Monitoring is focused on the San Julián, Piraí, Yapacaní, Ichilo, Chapare, Isiboro, Beni, and Yacuma basins. The risk of flooding is particularly concentrated in sectors of Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, La Paz, and Beni, affecting various municipalities including Chimoré, Cocapata, and Achocalla.

Authorities have advised the population to protect crops and livestock, avoid crossing flooded roads or rivers, and remain vigilant regarding official reports.
