Bolivian and Argentine Truckers Blocked at Chile Border

More than a hundred heavy‑duty trucks from Bolivia have been stranded in the Chilean town of Colchane after Chilean customs controls failed to process them within the agreed 24‑hour window. The Chamber of Transport of La Paz, represented by Álvaro Ayllón, warned that the backlog creates road‑safety hazards, blocks local traffic and compounds a diesel shortage that is already hampering logistics.

In Argentina, a similar buildup has occurred at Plaza Huincul, where over a hundred trucks are waiting for the Pino Hachado border crossing to reopen. Municipal authorities have set up facilities such as chemical toilets and waste containers and are coordinating with civil defence and local police to manage the queue while adverse weather continues to restrict passage.

Both incidents underscore persistent bottlenecks at Chile’s northern border crossings, disrupting trade routes between Bolivia, Argentina and Chile and raising concerns for regional freight operators.
