Bolivian Army finds records of explosives and pyrotechnics

The Bolivian Army has discovered documentation regarding 499 boxes of explosive material and various pyrotechnic records during an archival review. This investigation follows recent explosions at the Bolívar Regiment in Viacha.

According to General Division Héctor Alejandro Alarcón Antezana, the records indicate that the 499 boxes of explosives were delivered as a deposit in September 2019 by the company Minera Inti Raymi S.A. The shipment included 99 boxes containing 2,970 boosters and 400 boxes of various delay types. Additionally, the files contain records from 2020 concerning pyrotechnic materials, including documentation for several hundred boxes.

General Alarcón emphasized that these findings are historical records and do not confirm that the materials were physically present at the barracks during the explosions. The Army is currently working to reconstruct the full documentary traceability to determine what happened to the registered materials—whether they were destroyed, returned, transferred, or decommissioned—though the documents themselves do not yet establish the cause of the detonations.
