Bolivian Army nears conclusion of Viacha explosion investigation
The Bolivian Army is nearing the conclusion of an investigation into explosions at the Bolívar Mechanized Artillery Regiment No. 2 in Viacha. Army General Commander Héctor Alejandro Alarcón stated that the summary report is in its final stages and results will be shared with the Public Ministry next week. Alarcón noted that previous formal observations made by the Prosecutor's Office have been corrected and resubmitted.
The investigation includes a complaint filed against former Defense Minister Edmundo Novillo. The Army has provided evidence to the prosecution, including reports from the regiment's commander.
Meanwhile, residents living near the military facility continue to face severe consequences from the blast's shockwave. Families in the area designated as a ‘red zone’ report significant structural damage to their homes and businesses. Residents are calling for compensation, organized aid, and the establishment of an Emergency Operations Center to address the ongoing humanitarian needs and facilitate reconstruction.
