Bolivian Assembly summons Minister Oviedo over 50-day road blockades

The Plurinational Legislative Assembly has summoned Government Minister Marco Antonio Oviedo to an interpellation session scheduled for Thursday. Oviedo is required to answer a 32-question questionnaire regarding the government's response to more than 50 days of road blockades across the country's fundamental road network.

The inquiry focuses on the measures taken to restore public order and the operations conducted by security forces to clear the blockades. Legislators are seeking clarification on how these conflicts impacted fundamental rights, including life, health, work, and free movement, as well as the resulting shortages of food, medicine, and other essential products in various regions.

Edmand Lara, the Vice President and presiding officer of the Assembly, confirmed the summons and noted that the minister had not submitted any excuses for absence as of Wednesday. The session is expected to serve as a significant point of political confrontation between the Executive branch and the Legislature.
