Bolivian Police recover stolen Argentine vehicles via GPS tracking
Police forces in Bolivia and Argentina have successfully recovered high-end vehicles stolen in Argentina through international cooperation and advanced tracking technology.
In Oruro, Bolivia, the Direction of Prevention and Investigation of Vehicle Theft (Diprove) recovered a 2026 Toyota model in Challapata. The vehicle, valued at over $100,000, had been stolen near the Ezeiza airport in Buenos Aires. Although criminals had deactivated one GPS system, a second hidden tracking device allowed authorities to locate the vehicle, which was being prepared for illegal sale for approximately $10,000. Colonel Miguel Ángel Zambrana Aguilar noted that the operation faced some obstruction from local residents.
In a separate operation, a Toyota SW4 stolen in Jujuy, Argentina, was recovered near the border in Villazón, Bolivia. Following intelligence sharing between Argentine and Bolivian security forces, the vehicle was located in a rural area approximately 40 kilometers from the border. One individual was detained in connection with the case, having allegedly intended to dismantle or sell the vehicle after crossing through an illegal border crossing.
