Bolivian dollar stabilizes at 11.86 bolivianos

The US dollar in Bolivia has shown signs of stabilization, trading at 11.86 bolivianos as of August 7, 2026, following a recent peak of 12.15 bolivianos. The Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) has implemented regulations for the direct purchase and sale of dollars to financial intermediation entities to curb extreme market fluctuations.

Legislators remain divided on the currency's future. Deputy Catherine Pinto suggested the currency is stabilizing and encouraged public confidence, while Deputy Alejandro Reyes attributed the downward trend to expectations surrounding an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Conversely, Deputy Rolando Pacheco criticized the government's economic management, warning that improvisation could lead to significant price increases.

In the parallel market, the exchange rate—often referenced via the USDT cryptocurrency—is reported at approximately 11.12 bolivianos for purchases and 11.14 bolivianos for sales, placing it below the official rate.
