Bolivian government announces aid for Barrio Lindo fire victims

Following a major fire at the Barrio Lindo fair in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the Bolivian government has announced financial support measures for affected merchants and workers. Ministers José Gabriel Espinoza and Oscar Mario Justiniano, in coordination with Mayor Carlos Manuel Saavedra, are working to establish credit lines to help victims recover working capital and replace tools and merchandise.

The government also plans to coordinate with banks to facilitate the rescheduling and refinancing of existing credits, providing financial relief to those rebuilding their businesses.

In response to the equipment shortages highlighted by the incident, Mayor Saavedra has proposed a voluntary monthly contribution of one boliviano from citizens, collected via electricity and water bills, to create a fund for improving firefighter conditions. The mayor also intends to seek international support and implement a project for district fire stations to improve emergency response capabilities.
