Bolivia initiates reorganization of 67 state-owned companies

The Bolivian government has prioritized the reorganization, dissolution, or liquidation of 67 central state-owned and mixed companies as part of a fiscal adjustment program led by President Rodrigo Paz Pereira. Following a technical evaluation by the Office for the Strengthening of Public Enterprise (OFEP), which identified at least 20 entities in critical condition, Supreme Decree 5727 establishes a framework for determining the future of these firms. The process will involve individual diagnoses and does not imply automatic closures.

Simultaneously, regional authorities are in conflict with the central government. Eight governors have declared a state of alert, demanding the implementation of the '50/50' model to ensure a 15% share of tax co-participation for departmental governments starting in 2027. They have also set an October 31 deadline for the government to address demands regarding the rising costs of diesel, which has significantly impacted departmental budgets.

Other sectors are also reacting to economic shifts. The Federation of Mining Workers has declared a national state of emergency to oppose potential privatization of state assets. In the agricultural sector, Fegasacruz celebrated its 60th anniversary while calling for better diesel supply and export conditions. Meanwhile, the transport sector faces operational crises due to rising fuel costs and scarcity of foreign currency.
