Bolivian intelligence officials prosecuted over Marset raid
Bolivian authorities have reopened an investigation into alleged irregularities during the March 2026 operation to capture Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset in Santa Cruz. The investigation focuses on the suspected disappearance of money, luxury watches, and other valuables from safes at the scene that were reportedly not turned over to the Prosecutor's Office.
Colonel Juan Marcelo Ferrufino Rojas, the former national director of intelligence for the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc), has been ordered into six months of preventive detention at the Patacamaya prison. He faces investigation for five alleged crimes. During his judicial hearing, Ferrufino defended his actions, stating the operation was conducted by highly trained personnel and denying allegations of theft.
Prosecutors intend to use security camera footage to clarify the movement of goods from the residence where Marset was apprehended. While the initial investigation was closed due to insufficient evidence, new findings regarding unreported items have prompted the reopening of the case.
