Bolivian leaders criticize government spending and banking profits

Political leaders in Bolivia are criticizing the administration of Rodrigo Paz regarding government spending and the ongoing economic crisis. Samuel Doria Medina accused the government of prioritizing the accumulation of state resources over solving national problems. He specifically questioned the expenditure of approximately $3 million USD for a 12-page supplement in the United States-based media outlet USA Today.

Deputy Patricia Patiño of the PDC also criticized the high cost of the publication, noting that local media outlets are bypassed for such expensive international promotional efforts while the country faces financial difficulties.

Separately, former Health Minister Gabriela Montaño accused the banking sector of profiting from the country's economic instability. Speaking at a national meeting in Cochabamba, Montaño claimed that banks are making significant profits by buying dollars when prices are low and selling them at higher rates. She called for financial institutions to contribute to resolving the crisis rather than placing the entire economic burden on lower-income citizens.
