Bolivian police uncover chat logs detailing sub-lieutenant Salazar murder

Police investigations into the murder of sub-lieutenant Yerson Salazar Aliendres in the San Matías municipality have uncovered new evidence through seized mobile phone communications. During a raid in San Ignacio de Velasco, authorities recovered a cell phone belonging to the mother of a suspect known as ‘Mateo’.

The chat logs contain direct references to the ambush and the subsequent search for the officer's body, with messages stating, “They are going to keep looking, they want the body,” and “They already caught the sub-lieutenant.” The messages also mention a clandestine airstrip and a light blue pickup truck used by a suspect named Mariano Paz Chávez to flee toward Brazil.

Seven individuals have been detained in connection with the killing, which investigators believe is linked to the organized crime figure Sebastián Marset. During the same raid, police seized a 16-gauge shotgun, ammunition, and a 9mm shell casing. While several suspects are in custody, authorities are still searching for ‘Mateo’, who is believed to be hiding in the surrounding hills.
