Bolivia implements fuel controls and faces airline crisis
Bolivian authorities have intensified efforts to combat fuel smuggling and irregularities. The National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH) reported blocking over 10,000 vehicle plates in October due to suspicious fuel loads. Officials also seized 14,097 liters of gasoline, 651 liters of diesel, and 659 LPG cylinders. To prevent the illegal diversion of gas, the police have deployed personnel to escort LPG distribution trucks from the Senkata plant to their destinations.
Separately, workers at the state airline Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) have declared an emergency, citing a severe operational and financial crisis. Employees reported that aircraft are grounded due to a lack of critical spare parts, engines, and maintenance. They have warned of potential industrial actions if the Ministry of Public Works and the airline's board do not address these structural issues.
In a separate legal matter, the Public Ministry is conducting forensic examinations on vehicles linked to former Attorney General Róger Mariaca. Investigators are using micro-aspiration techniques to search for traces of controlled substances following the discovery of weapons and ammunition during previous raids.
