Bolivian campesino federation Tupac Katari continues road blockades demanding President Paz's resignation
A cabildo of the Tupac Katari campesino federation in Ingavi upheld the continuation of road blockades and called for President Rodrigo Paz to step down. The meeting, held amid internal tensions, confirmed the protestors' demand for the president’s resignation as the central objective and pledged to intensify pressure on the government. The blockades mark roughly 50 days of unrest, have resulted in at least a dozen deaths—mostly from lack of timely medical care—and caused estimated economic losses of about $2.5 billion.
Former federation leader David Mamani later denied a circulating document that claimed a 24‑hour pause in the blockades for food deliveries. He said the alleged instruction was fake and that any decision on a pause or dialogue must come from the grassroots bases of the 20 provincial federations. Mamani warned that the movement would maintain the blockades until an organic decision from the bases permits a change, reaffirming strong local opposition to any negotiated settlement with the government.
