Bolivia's La Paz and El Alto hospitals receive oxygen shipments via humanitarian corridor

Cisterns and containers of medicinal oxygen arrived in La Paz and El Alto, extending supplies for at least four days at key hospitals, including the Hospital de la Mujer, Hospital del Norte, the National Thorax Institute and others. The deliveries were secured after interventions by La Paz Governor Luis Revilla and the Departmental Health Service director José Carrasco, who emphasized the need to keep the humanitarian corridor open for medical goods.

Hospital officials said the oxygen is crucial for neonatal units and intensive care wards, where patients depend on continuous flow. Janett Aliaga, director of the Hospital de la Mujer, thanked the effort, noting that the neonatology ward is fully occupied and that the new supply will allow ongoing treatment. Authorities continue to coordinate additional shipments while urging protestors to allow unimpeded transit of essential medicines, food and other supplies.

The operation highlights ongoing challenges caused by road blockades, which have strained medical resources across the region and forced patients from neighboring departments to rely on La Paz hospitals for care.
