Bolivia's La Paz and Oruro departments celebrate bicentennial events
The La Paz department will mark its 176th anniversary on 4 August with a series of public festivities, including an artistic parade, a school‑children flag march and concerts on a temporary stage in the central plaza. Mayor Fernando Ubieta said the municipality is proceeding with pending works such as the Desaguadero hostel, full renovation of main avenues and the completion of an educational complex, while refusing to request advance funds from the province and aiming to finish his term debt‑free.
The Oruro department is preparing for its bicentennial on 5 September 2026. Officials have outlined a schedule of more than 85 cultural, academic and sporting activities to run from August 2024 through 2027, featuring a scientific congress, civic‑military parade, museum projects and a temporary cultural gallery. Organisers hope the programme will reinforce regional identity and stimulate local tourism and the economy.
