Bolivia's Túpac Katari Federation Suspends Expanded Protest Emergency
On 22 June 2026 the Federación Túpac Katari of La Paz announced the suspension of the expanded protest emergency it had called for in El Alto. The federation said the decision came after road blockades were lifted and as a reaction to recent political moves by the Plurinational Legislative Assembly that it described as a betrayal of indigenous campesino demands. It instructed the 20 provincial chapters to begin an immediate process of re‑articulation, re‑organization and internal consultation to analyse the national situation and devise joint strategies, while keeping the movement in a state of maximum alert and permanent organic mobilisation.
A separate verification report clarified that a viral video claiming to show a new resurgence of blockades at Cruce Ventilla actually depicted events from 23 May 2026, when groups re‑installed blockades in Senkata and Ventilla following the “Corredor Humanitario Banderas Blancas” operation that had temporarily opened the route for food, medicine and fuel. Police and military forces confronted the demonstrators, using tear‑gas after stone‑throwing. Subsequent reports from 20 June indicated security forces were again monitoring the area to keep the road open.
