Bolivia's YPFB Restarts Railway Fuel Transport, Delivering Over 1 Million Liters of Gasoline

Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) reactivated a railway corridor for fuel imports after a three‑year hiatus, moving the first convoy of more than one million litres of gasoline from Puerto Suárez, through a hydro‑via to Puerto Aguirre, and then by rail to the refinery at Santa Cruz. Executive president Sebastián Daroca said four to five additional trains carrying the same volume are expected within the week, aimed at supplying Santa Cruz, Beni and the southern regions.

The railway option is presented as a cost‑effective complement to tanker trucks, allowing larger volumes to be moved and enhancing the security of the national fuel supply. YPFB reported about 30 million litres of gasoline stored at Puerto Suárez for distribution, while diesel deliveries continue with around 12 million litres in transit. Fuel stations have seen queue lengths gradually shrink as the railway deliveries progress, though full normalization will take time.
