Boljanić commemorates 82nd anniversary of Operation Halyard
Commemorations were held in Boljanić near Doboj to mark the 82nd anniversary of Operation Halyard, a major World War II rescue mission. During the operation, members of the Yugoslav Army in the Fatherland rescued more than 500 Allied pilots behind enemy lines during 1944 and 1945.
Siniša Karan, President of Republika Srpska, described the mission as one of the most significant events in Serbian history, highlighting the bravery of locals who risked their lives to protect Allied soldiers from German and Ustaše forces. Savo Minić, Prime Minister of Srpska, emphasized the historical importance of the event, noting that the Serbian people have always stood on the side of freedom and alliance.
Speakers at the event stressed the importance of preserving these historical values and rehabilitating relationships with international allies through the shared history of the rescue mission.
