Bologna accommodation owners protest proposed tourist tax increase

Owners of non-hotel accommodation in Bologna are protesting a proposal by Mayor Matteo Lepore to increase the tourist tax to a maximum of 10 euros. The network Local pal expressed concern that such an increase could drive visitors to choose alternative destinations, noting that Bologna cannot be compared to cities like Florence in terms of tourist appeal.

Representatives from Local pal criticized the municipal administration for what they described as a contradictory approach, claiming the city is simultaneously seeking more resources from the sector through higher taxes while introducing urban planning tools that limit short-term rentals and B&Bs.
