Bologna activists hold solidarity event for Abderrahim Fakir
Activists, workers, and trade unionists gathered in Bologna at the university spaces of via Zamboni 38 to hold a day of discussion and fundraising dedicated to Abderrahim Fakir. Fakir, a 42-year-old, died on July 19 in the Pilastro district during a police intervention.
Organized under the slogan “No justice, no peace”, the event included working groups focused on anti-racism, new generations, and the conditions of working-class neighborhoods. The day concluded with a plenary assembly and a benefit concert in Piazza Verdi featuring rap music and a DJ set.
Organizers have signaled plans to expand the mobilization, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for September 30. This upcoming gathering may include the announcement of a general strike. Additionally, activists are planning a protest at the Bologna Immigration Office to address delays in residence permit renewals, which they link to broader difficulties faced by migrants in accessing healthcare and employment.
