Bologna authorities rescue 110 neglected Alaskan Malamutes
Authorities in the province of Bologna have rescued 110 Alaskan Malamute dogs following a judicial police operation. The intervention, conducted by the Carabinieri Forestali and veterinary services from the USL of Bologna, resulted in the preventive seizure of 107 dogs, in addition to four previously seized animals.
The investigation, ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Bologna, initially aimed to inspect the detention conditions of four dogs. However, inspectors discovered that the entire group, consisting of 94 adults and 16 puppies, was being kept in non-compliant conditions. The animals exhibited signs of malnutrition, dehydration, and neglect, exacerbated by poor hygienic conditions in their environment.
Animal welfare organizations, including LAV and ENPA, are collaborating to relocate the dogs to suitable facilities. One dog from a previous seizure was reported deceased.
