The Catholic Church has beatified three priests in Bologna who were murdered by SS troops during the Monte Sole massacre in 1944. The new beatified individuals are Ubaldo Marchioni, Elia Comini, and Martino Capelli.

During the ceremony at the Basilica of San Petronio, Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, presided as the papal delegate. He emphasized that the priests chose to remain with their communities during the violence rather than seeking personal safety, describing their actions as an expression of pastoral love and faithfulness.

The Monte Sole massacre, also known as the Marzabotto massacre, occurred between September 29 and October 5, 1944, when German forces killed over 770 people, including many civilians. Ubaldo Marchioni was killed in the church of Casaglia, while Comini and Capelli were executed in Pioppe di Salvaro on October 1 after attempting to assist victims.
