Bologna controversy over gender identity educational materials and events

A controversy has emerged in Bologna regarding the use of educational materials addressing gender identity and diverse family structures in municipal nurseries. Following reports from a parent, members of the Lega party have called for an urgent inquiry into how books such as ‘Nei panni di Zaff’ and ‘Piccolo uovo’ are selected and whether families are properly informed about their contents.

In a separate but related development, a planned conference titled ‘Gender dysphoria in minors: scientific evidence, treatment choices, and rights’ was canceled by the Academy of Sciences in Bologna. The event, which was intended to discuss the use of puberty blockers in minors, was scheduled to feature author Alessandra Arachi and professors Marco Del Giudice and Assuntina Morresi. Organizers cited security concerns due to potential student protests and a lack of opposing viewpoints as reasons for the cancellation, claims which the speakers described as unacceptable.
