Parma Prosecutor appeals acquittal of Chiara Petrolini for first child's murder

The Parma Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal against a ruling by the Parma Court of Assizes regarding Chiara Petrolini. While Petrolini was sentenced to 24 years and 3 months in prison, the court acquitted her of the premeditated murder of her first son, Domenico Matteo Granelli, who died on May 12, 2023. The court ruled there was insufficient evidence that the infant was born alive, finding her responsible only for the suppression of the corpse.

Additionally, the prosecution is challenging the reclassification of the crime involving her second child, Angelo Federico Granelli, who died on August 7, 2024. The court classified the incident as concealment of a corpse rather than suppression. The prosecution maintains that evidence suggests the first child was indeed born alive and seeks to overturn the acquittals and reclassifications to ensure more severe criminal accountability.
