Bologna Court reduces sentence in Aurora Tila homicide case

The Bologna Court of Appeal has reduced the sentence for the individual responsible for the death of 13-year-old Aurora Tila. The defendant, who was 15 at the time of the incident in October 2024, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. This is a reduction from the 17-year sentence handed down by the Juvenile Court of Bologna in the first instance.

The defendant was found guilty of aggravated homicide, with aggravating factors including stalking, the victim's age, and the existing affective relationship between the two. The reduction in the sentence follows a request from the General Prosecutor's office for 15 years and six months, citing mitigating circumstances after the defendant's confession.

The victim's mother, Morena Corbellini, expressed profound dissatisfaction with the ruling, calling for intervention from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. She argued that lenient sentencing undermines efforts to combat femicide and warned that such outcomes may lead to an increase in violence.
