Bologna emergency service coordinator sentenced for poisoning colleagues

Claudio Tacconi, a former coordinator for the 118 emergency service at the Maggiore di Bologna hospital, has been sentenced to two years in prison for injury and stalking. Between 2020 and 2023, Tacconi surreptitiously administered medications into the food and drinks of his colleagues, including coffee, Coca-Cola, and various snacks, causing illness in ten individuals.

The court noted that his actions created a “pervasive and serious state of anxiety” among staff, forcing employees to change their habits and avoid unattended food or vending machines. Tacconi also faced charges for simulating crimes, including claiming he was a victim of intoxication and staging a robbery to divert suspicion.

The judge ordered compensation for civil parties and a 50,000 euro payment to the Ausl, along with 5,000 euros for each individual victim. The defense has announced an appeal.
