Bologna evaluates defensive options amid Gassama transfer complications

Bologna is navigating complex negotiations in its search for defensive reinforcements. The pursuit of Nathan Gassama, a French-Malian defender from Baltika Kaliningrad, has faced complications due to potential regulatory hurdles. While an agreement was reportedly reached for a transfer fee of approximately 4 to 4.5 million euros, difficulties have arisen regarding the payment methods. Because of sanctions against Russia, the club must ensure that the funds used by Baltika do not have links to the Russian government, a process that adds bureaucratic complexity to the deal.

As the Gassama deal slows, interest has resurfaced in Colombian defender Juan Cabal from Juventus. Bologna had previously reached an agreement with Juventus for a loan with a 9 million euro purchase option, but the club's recent pivot toward Gassama reportedly caused friction with Cabal's representatives. Other secondary options being considered include free agent Francesco Acerbi, Youri Baas of Ajax, and Rosen Bozhinov of Pisa.
