Bologna inaugurates Thimostia residential facility for patients

The Fondazione Sant’Orsola has inaugurated ‘Thimostia’, a new residential facility in Bologna designed to support patients undergoing medical treatments. Located in the Mazzini area near the Sant’Orsola Policlinico, the facility was converted from a former convent through €236,000 in donations from citizens and businesses.

The residence features 26 rooms with a total of 46 beds, including single and double options with private bathrooms. Amenities include common rooms, two kitchens, a garden, and an accessible vegetable patch. The facility aims to provide a community environment where guests can receive mutual support and assistance from volunteers, including help with transportation to the hospital.

While the house serves patients traveling from other regions for life-saving treatments, such as transplants or chemotherapy, it also extends support to local Bologna residents. The initiative specifically targets elderly individuals and those living alone who require assistance during long-term care processes. This addresses a growing demographic need, as single-person households account for 45.3% of families in the Bologna metropolitan area, with over 84,000 of those being residents over the age of 65.
