Bologna investigation: Preliminary exams show no pre-existing heart issues in Fakir death

Preliminary medical examinations regarding the death of 42-year-old Abderrahim Fakir in Bologna have found no evidence of pre-existing heart conditions. Fakir died on July 19 during an intervention by two State Police officers attempting to immobilize him in the Pilastro district.

The autopsy, conducted on July 24, previously identified the presence of fresh blood in the lungs and signs of crushing. While the heart analysis provides a new piece of the investigation, the final cause of death remains undetermined. Investigators are still awaiting the results of toxicological and histological exams to complete the medical-legal report.

The Bologna Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation under the ‘modello 45-bis’ register. This register includes the names of the two police officers involved and the four emergency medical responders. Under current regulations, this status serves as a preliminary notation rather than a formal indictment.
