Bologna officials discuss tourism and local commerce integration
Stakeholders in Bologna, including representatives from Ascom Confcommercio, the Municipality, and Apt Emilia-Romagna, met to discuss the intersection of tourism and local commerce. Giancarlo Tonelli, director of Ascom Confcommercio, highlighted challenges such as construction-related disruptions and a 20% decline in business due to local works, while advocating for neighborhood commerce over e-commerce.
Officials emphasized that tourism remains a vital economic driver for the city. Mattia Santori of the Metropolitan City noted the importance of maintaining the city's identity, while Alberto Aitini of Apt Emilia-Romagna stated that Bologna does not face issues with overtourism. Local Councilor Luisa Guidone reaffirmed the city's commitment to a human-scale urban model that protects the local commercial fabric and quality of life.
