Bologna police identify 26 suspects in violent Fakir protest clashes

Police in Bologna have identified 26 individuals to be reported for violence during protests held on July 20 following the death of Abderrahim Fakir. Fakir, a 43-year-old Moroccan national residing in Italy, died during a police check in the Pilastro district.

The demonstrations, which centered around Piazza Roosevelt and several surrounding streets, resulted in significant property damage and injuries. Authorities report that 64 law enforcement officers were injured. Damage included the destruction of shop windows, bank ATMs, and trash bins, as well as the burning of two vehicles and the destruction of six police vehicles. Protesters also used dozens of bicycles to build barricades and damaged a tram construction site.

Investigators have reviewed the actions of approximately 150 people using video and photographic evidence. Among those identified are eleven activists linked to the Collettivo Universitario Autonomo. Charges include aggravated resistance, property damage, and the throwing of dangerous objects. Some individuals face more serious potential charges, such as devastation and looting, while four people have been issued bans from urban areas.
