Bologna police investigation continues into death of Abderrahim Fakir
New video footage has emerged regarding the death of Abderrahim Fakir, who died on July 19 while being detained by police in the Pilastro district of Bologna, Italy. The footage, including recordings from residents and footage obtained by the family's lawyer, shows Fakir in a disoriented state prior to the incident.
One specific video shows Red Cross responders attempting resuscitation maneuvers, such as chest compressions and ventilation, while Fakir remained restrained with his hands behind his back and his ankles bound by zip ties. The family's lawyer, Fabio Anselmo, has criticized this, stating that agents should have released him before medical intervention began.
While the family held a funeral ceremony in Morocco, Fakir's body remains in the custody of judicial authorities in Bologna as the investigation continues. Forensic specialists are working to extract data from a police officer's body camera, and investigators are also examining Fakir's mobile phone. The inquiry currently involves the two police officers involved in the detention and four Red Cross volunteers present at the scene.
