Bologna political shift as Forza Italia youth leaders join Azione

Approximately 40 young leaders and former officials from Forza Italia have defected to the Azione party in Bologna. The group is led by Daniele Aiello, the former national head of Forza Italia’s youth organization, and Emanuele Federici, a former regional youth secretary.

Aiello cited strong disagreements with local and regional leadership and criticized the center-right's inability to present a viable alternative for the city's government. The move is seen as a strategic shift ahead of the 2027 municipal elections, as Azione seeks to build an autonomous political project that serves as an alternative to both the current administration led by Matteo Lepore and the existing center-right coalition.

Azione officials, including Senator Marco Lombardo, welcomed the group, emphasizing a desire to represent citizens disillusioned with traditional left and right-wing politics. This departure represents a significant loss of organizational structure for Forza Italia as it begins reorganizing for future local elections.
