Bologna receives first CAF-produced tram for new network
The first tram produced by the Spanish company CAF has arrived at the Borgo Panigale depot in Bologna. Presented by Mayor Matteo Lepore, the new infrastructure is funded through the Pnrr and is intended to improve mobility for residents living outside the city center while boosting the local economy.
Testing of the vehicle will begin within the depot and is scheduled to move to the street section between the depot and via Cavalieri Ducati by September. The city has currently ordered 35 trams, with plans to expand the total fleet to approximately 60 vehicles. In a community initiative, local schoolchildren will be invited to choose names for the trams.
The bidirectional vehicles are 34.7 meters long and can accommodate up to 223 passengers under normal conditions, with a maximum capacity of 300. The fleet is based on the CAF URBOS platform.
