Bologna renames garden after influential rapper Joe Cassano

The Giardino delle Popolarissime in Bologna has been officially named after Joe Cassano, a prominent Bolognese rapper and influential figure in Italian hip hop culture. Cassano, who was born in 1973 and passed away in 1999 at the age of 25, was a central figure in the city's rap scene during the 1990s.

The dedication ceremony was attended by local officials, including Mayor Matteo Lepore and Vice Mayor Emily Clancy. The renaming is part of a broader urban regeneration project for the Scalo-Malvasia district, a historic public housing area. Once known as a significant site for drug dealing, the area has undergone physical and social transformation through the ATUSS project, which focuses on sustainable urban development, community welfare, and cultural integration.

The revitalized space now includes a multifunctional pavilion that hosts social, educational, and cultural activities, serving as a community hub for residents and the wider city.
