Bologna revamps streets for inaugural tram line and one‑way traffic

Bologna has completed the road layout changes needed for the city's first tram line, the Linea Rossa, which began operating on via San Felice in July 2026. The redesign creates a double‑track tram corridor with a dedicated one‑way lane toward the city centre, while preserving a car lane that remains open toward the historic centre. New tram stops have been installed, including dual stops at Riva di Reno Nord and Sud, and the former bus‑only streets now accommodate the tram.

To accommodate the tram infrastructure, a one‑way system has been imposed on via Marco Emilio Lepido between via Cavalieri Ducati and via Persicetana, directing traffic toward Borgo Panigale. As a result, dozens of city bus routes (lines 23, 54, 79, 80, 87, 179, 556, 576, 646, 651, 673, 677 and night line N7) are rerouted, with specific detours listed for each line and several stops temporarily suspended or replaced by provisional stops. These adjustments aim to maintain public‑transport service while the tram line becomes fully operational.
