Bologna theater debut explores Catholic resistance to Hitler
A new theatrical monologue titled ‘Non sono solo. Storie di cattolici che si opposero a Hitler’ debuted at the Oratorio San Filippo Neri in Bologna as part of the Franciscan Festival. The play is a stage adaptation of the book ‘La lama e la croce’ by writer Francesco Comina.
The production explores the lives of men and women who resisted the Nazi regime due to their Christian faith and conscience, including figures such as Franz Jägerstätter, Maria Terwiel, Franz Reinisch, and Eva-Maria Buch. The narrative uses a unique perspective, told through the lens of Nazi executioner Johann Reichhart to reconstruct the atmosphere of the Third Reich and the meaning of moral resistance.
The project was conceived by Lorenzo Fazzini of the Libreria Editrice Vaticana (LEV) and features actor and director Lorenzo Bassotto alongside musician Olmo Chittó. This marks the first theatrical production by LEV aimed at using new storytelling methods to preserve historical memory and civil testimony.
