Bologna to Install Air‑Conditioning in All Nurseries and Kindergartens by June 2027

The Bologna municipality has allocated €700,000 to equip all municipal nurseries and kindergartens with permanent cooling systems. The funding is split into €350,000 for 2026 and €350,000 for 2027, with the works to begin in September and the installations to be completed by June 2027.

To address the current heat emergency, about 100 mobile air‑conditioners were installed in facilities with the most critical micro‑climate issues. Seven locations – the Cavazzoni and Tovaglie nurseries, the Giardino Pozzati nursery‑school, and the Cerini, Padiglione, De Stefani and Degli Esposti kindergartens – already have fixed systems.

The project is part of a broader public‑private partnership for the unified maintenance of municipal buildings, which also includes energy‑efficiency upgrades such as thermal insulation, photovoltaic canopies, new windows, LED lighting, heat‑pump and solar‑thermal installations, and building‑automation controls.
